This blog has the mission of following closely the level of participation during the process of the Round Table Berlin and to inform the Berlin Dance Scene about its development and to serve as a public platform to collect opinions and reflections about the process. The Round Table Dance is a participatory process initiated by politicians to develop the Dance in Berlin injecting 100.000 euros into this process. The Round table consist on a group of 21 people representing the dance scene. In at least four rounds of talks, representatives of Berlin’s cultural policy, the Senate Culture Administration and the Berlin dance scene will come together to discuss how to improve conditions in the Berlin dance scene. The Dance Round Table will be accompanied by working groups that are open to all interested parties and whose results will be included in the joint rounds of discussion with the Dance Round Table participants. The ROund Table will have to cooperate closely with the working groups starting from the beginning of April and for the end of the year write a concept-recommendation for the politicians to take action and implement the conditions for dance in Berlin. The working groups are open to everybody and soon it will be announced when and where they will take place.
The selection committee decided on 31.01.2018 for the following coordinators: Karin Kirchhoff – curator, dramaturge, lecturer – and dr. Elisabeth Nehring – dance critic and journalist. The selection committee consisted of one representative from each: Berlin Cultural Policy, Berlin Cultural Administration, Board of the Contemporary Dance Berlin e.V., TanzRaumBerlin Network and Tanzbüro Berlin.
The 21 participants in the round table are: the chairman of the committee for cultural affairs, Sabine Bangert (Alliance 90 / The Greens), as well as the cultural policy spokespersons of the SPD, Frank Jahnke, and the left, Regina Kittler, will take part in the round table dance. The cultural administration will be assisted by the State Secretary for Culture, Dr. med. Torsten Wöhlert and Head of Unit KD for the Promotion of Artists, Free Groups and Projects, Sabine Koehncke, and Head of Unit KB for Institutional Funding, Barbara Esser. Participants selected by the Berlin Cultural Administration are: Frank Schmid (perspective of the juries), Michaela Schlagenwerth (perspective of dance journalism) and dr. Kerstin Evert (external expert, K3 Center for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg). For the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland board member Claudia Feest will participate in the Round Table Dance, the Contemporary Dance Berlin e.V. is represented by the board member Moritz Majce. Marie Henrion will take part in the Round Table Dance for Tanzbüro Berlin. On February 14, 2018, an open preparatory meeting of the Berliner Tanzszene took place in the Uferstudios, where a mood for the posting of the participants from the artistic field was created at the Round Table Dance 2018, which the coordinator used as the basis for the selection the artistic participant served.

On March 23, the Round Table Dance will meet for the first time. Subsequently, dates for the first meetings of the working groups will be announced. The working groups are open to anyone interested. The participants of the Round Table Dance have the task to introduce the results of the working groups in the discussions of the Round Table Dance.
